Djordjina Тrubarac Matić was born in 1972 in Belgrade. She graduated in 1998 from the Faculty of Philology (University of Belgrade), at the Department of Iberian Studies. In the same year she started her postgraduate studies at the Department of Spanish Literature at the Complutense University, Madrid, where she received her PhD degree in 2009 after defending the Thesis «Transparent Excuse» of water stirred by a deer: Iberian and Balkan Parallels.

The main fields of her interest are comparative study of European and Indo-European folk songs, as well as exploration of traditional representations of religious, mythological, and different kinds of cultural ideas through structural and semantic-pragmatic interpretation of traditional oral texts. Linguistic-anthropological approach to language, literary and ethnographic material is used in order to reveal different layers of meaning of the text and the function which the text has within specific communication contexts.

Since 2013, she has been engaged in the Ethnographic Institute of SASA project Interdisciplinary research of Serbian cultural and linguistic heritage. Creation of multimedial Internet portal "The Lexicon of Serbian Culture".

She is fluent in English and Spanish, and reads Portuguese, Galician, Catalan, Italian, Russian, Slovenian, Macedonian and Bulgarian.
