As part of the celebration of the anniversary of the birth of Petar II Petrović Njegoš under the name “Njegoš` Word”, Professor Mikonja Knežević, PhD, senior research associate of the SASA Institute of Ethnography, gave a lecture “Njegoš` Christian Platonism” upon the invitation of the “Radosav Ljumović” National Library in Podgorica.

Knežević, PhD, highlighted the dominant Platonic elements in Njegoš` https://etno-institut.co.rs/admin/projects  meditative poetry, but also deeply Christian motifs in his work, which reach their culmination at the end of the Ray of Microcosm, in the Testament and in some of Njegoš` lesser-known letters. By demonstrating the presence of the Platonic tradition in patristic literature, Knežević placed Njegoš within the tradition of “Christian Platonism”, which traces its roots from Late Antiquity and Early Christianity all the way to Njegoš` (and our own) time.
