The Summer Program on Forced Migration and Borders was held in the period from June 1 to 14, 2026 at the Faculty of Political Sciences in Belgrade. It was attended by students, lecturers, practitioners, activists, researchers, journalists, interpreters and facilitators from several countries. The program was organized by the Center for Forced Displacement (Boston University), with the support of the MIGREC Center of the Faculty of Political Sciences (University of Belgrade) and the Institute of Ethnography SASA. The program was intended for the training of master’s and doctoral students. It consisted of a series of panels, workshops and internships in non-governmental organizations.

Three researchers from the Institute of Ethnography SASA participated in the summer program. Teodora Jovanović, PhD, is one of the organizers of the program, and moderated various panels, coordinated practice in a non-governmental organization and held different workshops on the methodology and ethics of qualitative research. Marta Stojić Mitrović, PhD, participated in the panel on the securitization of migration and held a workshop on critical discourse analysis. Ivan Đorđević, PhD, presented the HEROINE project as part of the workshop on the ethics of engaged research. Two weeks of intensive theoretical and practical work allowed the students to get acquainted with different perspectives and dynamic field.

Also, students presented their own research projects – regardless of whether they were early-stage ideas or ongoing projects – to work on them in collaboration with other participants, rethink their methodological approaches and exchange their ideas with other students and program organizers. The curiosity and energy of the students was inspiring for the organizers of the program.
