Teodora Jovanović, research assistant of the SASA Institute of Ethnography, will give a lecture “On a Journey from the Middle East to Western Europe” on February 8th, 2023, starting at 19:00. During the lecture, visitors will have the opportunity to hear how refugees from the Middle Eastern countries explain their journeys, what their lives were like in Iran, Afghanistan and Syria, and what they are like now. The reasons why the refugees are seen as dangerous and in which ways the EU tries to maintain the appearance of a community based on democracy, human rights and multiculturalism, while at the same time using all means available to stop migrations from the Middle East will also be discussed. The lecturer will also refer to ethical problems in ethnographic research on migrations and the role of researchers in the production of knowledge about the “Other”.
The lecture will be held in the ROOF Community Centre, Kraljice Marije 47, Belgrade.
