Dr. Noel Putnik, a research associate at the Institute of Ethnography SASA, participated in the summer school Magic and Witchcraft: Beliefs and Trials in Historical Perspective, organized by Central European University in Budapest, held from July 7 to 11, 2025. The main goal of the summer school was to examine the development of witch-beliefs in medieval and early modern Europe by tracing their roots – from the literary traditions of ancient Greece and Rome, through medieval legends and popular beliefs, to the “epidemic” of witch-hunting in early modern Europe. Eight lecturers and around thirty participants explored the formation of this phenomenon from historical, anthropological, and sociological perspectives, in light of ancient and medieval conceptions of magic and religion.

As part of the summer school, Dr. Noel Putnik delivered three invited lectures.
