On 10 July, the Institute of Ethnography SASA hosted participants of the “I Decide” programme, implemented by the Association “Successful Women of Kostolac” with financial support from the Reconstruction Women’s Fund. The programme is aimed at empowering Roma girls and young women by introducing them to opportunities for higher education, various study programmes, and student life, with the goal of encouraging them to think independently and confidently about their educational and professional futures.

As part of their visit to the Institute of Ethnography SASA, the participants had the opportunity to learn more about the work of this research institution, its role in the development of ethnology and anthropology in Serbia, as well as the topics explored by the Institute’s researchers. Dr Ivan Đorđević and Dr Bojana Bogdanović presented the Institute’s main research areas, the importance of ethnological and anthropological studies for understanding cultural, social, and identity-related processes, as well as the various ways in which science contributes to the preservation and interpretation of cultural heritage and contemporary social phenomena. Special attention was given to academic titles, opportunities for professional development within the academic community, and different pathways through which young people can continue their education and pursue further professional development.

The visit to the Institute of Ethnography SASA was part of a broader programme that includes visits to various faculties, scientific, and educational institutions, including the Centre for the Promotion of Science, the Faculty of Philosophy, the Faculty of Philology, the Faculty of Agriculture, the Faculty of Mining and Geology, and the Faculty of Biology, as well as organisations dedicated to community support and empowerment, such as Trag Foundation and the Roma Women’s Centre “Bibija”.
