Jelena Čvorović, PhD, Principal Research Fellow at the Institute of Ethnography SASA, has published a new book with Bloomsbury Academic, titled Child Marriage: Confronting Customs and Controversy.

The book explores child marriage as a complex social, economic, demographic, and public health phenomenon. The first part brings together a collection of essays examining the causes and consequences of child marriage today, while the second part presents 30 case studies from diverse cultural and geographical contexts around the world, including countries across Asia, Africa, Europe, and the Americas. This comparative approach enables readers to identify similarities and differences in patterns of child marriage across cultures and regions, offering a broader understanding of this complex and controversial topic.

Child and arranged marriage are among the research areas that Dr. Čvorović has studied for many years, drawing on extensive fieldwork and a rich body of ethnographic material.
