Gordana Blagojević, PhD, Principal Research Fellow at the Institute of Ethnography SASA, participated in the 13th International Symposium on Traditional Polyphony, held from 23 to 26 September 2026 in Tbilisi, Georgia.

As part of the symposium, Blagojević, PhD, presented her paper, Byzantine Chant in the Age of AI: Insights from Scholars, Educators and Chanters, which examines contemporary approaches to the study of Byzantine chant from an anthropological perspective, as well as the potential applications of artificial intelligence in research, education, and performance practice. Particular attention was given to the ways in which contemporary technologies may influence the understanding, transmission, and preservation of musical and cultural traditions, as well as to the experiences and perspectives of researchers, educators, and chanters.

This year’s symposium, organized by the Vano Sarajishvili Tbilisi State Conservatoire, the International Research Center for Traditional Polyphony at the Conservatoire, and the Anzor Erkomaishvili State Folklore Centre in Tbilisi, brought together researchers from various countries and provided an important platform for the exchange of research findings, experiences, and new methodological approaches to the study of traditional music.

We are particularly pleased that Blagojević’s, PhD, participation provided an opportunity to present the research conducted at our institution within an international scholarly context, while also fostering new professional connections and contributing to the further development of international cooperation.
