You are invited to attend the presentation of the project “European Irregularized Migrations Regime - from Ethnography to Keywords” (ERIM) on Tuesday, 27th April 2021 at 17:00, via the Zoom application.

The ERIM research project, which is coordinated by the Institute of Ethnology and Folklore Research and financed by the Croatian Science Foundation (IP 2019-04-6642), addresses the observation and analyses of irregularized migrations in a transnational area shaped by migration movements. The project comprises researchers from Croatia (Institute of Ethnology and Folklore Research, Faculty of Philosophy, University of Zagreb, Academy of Music University of Zagreb), Slovenia (Faculty of Social Work, University of Ljubljana, and Faculty of Philosophy University of Ljubljana) and Serbia (SASA Institute of Ethnography).

The researchers employ multi-locale ethnographic field research using observation, participation, interviews and other methods. In addition to this, they tend to gather levels of experience from different people on the move (refugees and migrants), members of local communities, employees and representatives of local authorities, international groups and other organizations.

The ERIM approaches migrations not as a symbol of the abstract and monolithic power of the state, but as a dynamic field of heterogenic, even contradictory practices and interactions of different participants, which are articulated in specific ways on the periphery of the EU. The aim of the project is to document and research these specifics on several levels and to offer empirically based and theoretically relevant conceptualizations. In this presentation, associates of the Institute of Ethnology and Folklore Research and the SASA Institute of Ethnography will present their work and results thus far, with a particular emphasis on field research.
