You are invited to the presentation of the new release of “the Digital Database of the Folklore Collection of the SASA Institute of Ethnography” , which will be held on January 24, 2024 starting at 11:00,at the SASA Audio-visual Centre, first floor, Knez Mihailova, 36.

At the beginning of 2020, following the decision of the director of the Institute, Professor Dragana Radojičić, PhD; a working group was established at the SASA Institute of Ethnography with the task of systematising an archival collection of about 20,000 folklore texts kept in the Institute. The leader of this working group Đorđina Trubarac Matić, PhD, was appointed to design an optimal solution for future use and access to this archival collection.

Even though the folklore collection archived at the SASA Institute of Ethnography is internally referred to as “Songs from the National Liberation War,” it consists of thematically diverse texts. These include those that address post-war reconstruction, socio-political events and reforms, new socio-cultural phenomena, the confrontation with  class and ideological opponents that followed immediately after the Second World War, upheavals following the adoption of the Informbiro Resolution on the Communist Party of Yugoslavia, as well as a large number of songs about work, labour actions, a new type of woman (emerging from significantly altered models of social ideals compared to the previously dominant patriarchal views), along with humorous, love, erotic, and other songs.

During 2022 and 2023, a team of associates from the SASA Institute of Ethnography, comprising Đorđina Trubarac Matić, PhD, Milan Tomašević, PhD, Nina Aksić, PhD, Biljana Milenković Vuković, and Bojana Vuković (in 2022), with Danilo Trbojević, PhD, and Konstantin Ađanin, MA, joining in 2023, worked on the project “Creation of the Digital Database of Folk Songs from the SASA EI Archive,” supported by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Serbia. Technical assistance for the implementation of software solutions was provided by engineer Branislav Tomić.

The project aimed to systematise  segments of the archival collection, digitally process it, and create the digital Database along with a web application to present it online, offering various types of advanced search options. The online version of the Database is accessible at:
