A one-day scientific conference “Reception of the Old Worlds” was organized in the SASA Institute of Ethnography, on Friday, December 15, 2023. The conference was dedicated to transdisciplinary research and critical study of the concept of reception in science, culture and art, and the study of numerous modalities of reception and appropriation of different cultures and texts through the ages. Sixteen researches and seven academic institutions, one of which from abroad, participated in the conference: Faculty of Philosophy and Faculty of Philology, University of Belgrade, the SASA Institute of Ethnography, the Institute for Literature and Arts in Belgrade, the Institute for Philosophy and Social Theory of the University of Belgrade and Central European University Vienna.
Five members of the SASA Institute of Ethnography participated: principal research fellows Lada Stevanović, PhD, and Gordana Blagojević, PhD, and research associates, Đurđina Šijaković Maidanik, PhD, Milan Tomašević, PhD, and Noel Putnik, PhD.
In a very dynamic and pleasant atmosphere, the question of reception, as one of the key questions in the social sciences and humanities, was examined from multiple perspectives - anthropology and ethnology, philosophy, classical sciences, art history, literary studies, and critical theory. There were sixteen presentations in four sessions, followed by a panel debate where the importance and advantages of such transdisciplinary gatherings dedicated to common topics were highlighted.
