Lecture “Journey of Souls? Shamanism in Ancient Greece” organised by the SASA Institute of Ethnography was held on Wednesday, April 26th. Noel Putnik, PhD, presented the theory about shamanism among the ancient Greeks that developed in science during the first half of the 20th century. The genesis of the theory was briefly presented in the lecture with a review of several of the most significant ancient literary testimonies and their interpretations. The main critiques of the theory were also presented, while, in the final part of the lecture, an overview of the broader historical and cultural context of its formation was given. The moderator of the lecture was Lada Stevanović, PhD, principal research fellow of the SASA Institute of Ethnography.
