The “HEROINE - Heritage of Emancipation: Empowering Roma Women through Networks of Solidarity” project, organised by the SASA Institute of Ethnography in collaboration with the Faculty of Philosophy, University of Belgrade and the Roma Women Centre “Bibija”, is the recipient of the Grand Prize awarded by the EU Prize for Citizen Science competition, which is organised by Ars Electronica in partnership with the European Union. The project is funded by the Centre for the Promotion of Science through the Public Call for Citizen Science Research.

This highest recognition is awarded to projects that, through the active participation of citizens, provide innovative, socially engaged, and scientifically relevant answers to the most complex challenges of the modern society. The selection of the “Heroine” project represents a historical achievement for Serbian science, as well as a confirmation that inclusivity and social engagement are recognised as core values within the European scientific community. The prize will be formally awarded in September 2025, at the Ars Electronica Festival in Linz, one of the world`s most important events at the intersection of art, science, technology and society.
