The third international scientific conference on video games studies in Serbia, “Artificial Game”, took place on December 17th and 18th, 2024 at the Svilara Cultural Station in Novi Sad. The event was organized by the Academy of Arts, the University of Novi Sad, the Serbian Games Association (SGA) and the SASA Institute of Ethnography. Vesna Trifunović, PhD, research associate, and Krinka Branković, MA, research assistant, members of the Programme and Organising Committee attended on behalf of the SASA Institute of Ethnography.
The conference brought together distinguished experts from Serbia and abroad, with this year`s theme addressing the growing interest in the phenomenon of artificial intelligence. The keynote speaker was Professor Espen Aarseth, PhD, one of the pioneers of video game studies worldwide. The conference covered topics such as the representation and preservation of cultural heritage in and through video games, narrative and narrativity in video games, the economic and social implications of video games, as well as the use and development of technology in the gaming industry. A panel discussion focused on the ethics and polices surrounding the use of artificial intelligence in everyday life, as well as in scientific and artistic creation.
Additionally, as part of the conference, a book promotion for “Video Games Studies and Educational Concepts”, edited by Professor Manojlo Maravić, PhD, from the Academy of Arts in Novi Sad, was organized.
