WEBINAR: RESEARCH OF HERITAGE AND IMPORTANCE OF WOMEN SCHOLARS IN SERBIA: METHODS AND APPROACHES

RESEARCH OF HERITAGE AND IMPORTANCE OF WOMEN SCHOLARS IN SERBIA: METHODS AND APPROACHES

Webinar with the title “Research of heritage and importance of women scholars in Serbia: methods and approaches” is going to be held during October, November and December 2021, in the frame of the project “Heritage and Importance of Women Scholars in Serbia” (Institute of Ethnography SASA /UNESCO Participation Program).  This webinar is primarily aimed at the students of graduate studies.

Previous research has shown the following: that in the past there were differences in the career paths of men and women scholars and scientists; that men were noticeably better represented and predominant in academia, and thus they received more public attention and more favorable emphasis was placed on their achievements. These are the specific conditions in which the academic path of women and their careers developed. This gap is especially pronounced in certain social and political periods. Some of these problems are still present today, and the attitude towards historical heritage affects the modern understanding of the position of women scholars and scientists in society, as well as the visibility and perception of their contributions. This is why it is necessary to present the historical heritage and endeavors of women scholars and scientists and promote them as much as possible through educational programs, thereby expanding knowledge and encouraging interest in the scholarly and scientific work of women in society.

The Webinar is going to offer insight into different methodologies for the research of the contributions of women scholars in the past, as well as the methods for collecting information about contemporary women scholars. Although, above all the perspective is historical, the approach is going to be interdisciplinary, with the aim to offer not only methodological tools, but also to present personal experiences of the women researchers, as well as their dilemmas.  Practically, it means that the webinar is meant to be used as a help to students of the PhD studies to do researches related to saving from oblivion those women who gave contribution to science and humanities, in spite of all the obstacles that they were facing during their careers. The aim of the webinar is the invention of  strategies to keep achieved knowledge and impetus to join similar researches.

Webinar is held via zoom application.
